Once registered as a resident in Spain, can I go back to the UK without losing my residency status?

For first time residents with a temporary residence card (up to 5 years of residency), the allowed leave period from Spain is for a maximum of 6 months per year, without losing your right to continue residing in Spain. For permanent residents (5+ years of residency), this 6-month period is extended to 5 consecutive years.
